NRCAT Action Fund
The National Religious Campaign Against Torture Action Fund works to ensure that U.S. leaders oppose torture in all circumstances. It does so primarily by educating current leaders. The NRCAT Action Fund staff regularly meet with top decision-makers to discuss what interrogation techniques ought to be permitted, how prisoners can be adequately protected from torture and other abuse, how we should respond to past instances of torture, and what proactive steps the U.S. can take to help prevent torture in all parts of the world.
The NRCAT Action Fund also engages in some limited electoral work. It educates people in particular states about candidates’ positions on torture using a variety of means, including newspaper ads, questions at public forums, and voter guides comparing candidates on torture.
The NRCAT Action Fund works with its sister organization, the National Religious Campaign Against Torture. Unlike the NRCAT Action Fund, which focuses on policy-makers, NRCAT focuses on educating people of faith about torture. Its goal is to ensure that the American people are united in opposition to torture (although it does also engage in some limited lobbying on policy matters).
