Religious Coalition Releases Scorecards for Members of Congress on Torture

For Immediate Release: November 2, 2012
Contact: Rev. Richard Killmer, 202-547-1920

(Washington, D.C.)  The National Religious Campaign Against Torture Action Fund (NRCAT-AF) has released its 2012 Congressional Vote Scorecards that show how incumbent Members of Congress voted on torture and detainee-related issues.  Rev. Richard Killmer, Executive Director of NRCAT-AF described the significance of the scorecards:

“Members of Congress are given a sacred trust to represent the values and morality of the American people.  Americans know that torture is wrong – we are taught that by our religions and by the ideals of our country.  As our representatives, Members of Congress should fight for our values and oppose torture.  Our Scorecards list many Members of Congress who have stood against torture 100% of the time.  Unfortunately, they also include Members who have refused to stand against torture.  Our hope is that in the future, all Members of Congress will do the right thing and stand against torture wherever it happens, and ensure that the U.S. never engages in torture again.”

The NRCAT-AF Scorecards can be found at www.nrcatactionfund.org/scorecard.  There are Scorecards for both the Senate and the House of Representatives.  They are sorted by both last name and location.
